Boston: Houghton, Osgood and Company, 1879. First Edition, Second Printing. Hardcover. Octavo, [i-ii], [1]-281 pages. In Good Plus condition. Bound in Kelly Green cloth with gilt lettering on spine. Boards have tearing and fraying to spine edges, rubbing to corners exposing boards, and mild edge and shelf wear. Textblock has glue stains on front pastedown, bookplate on front endpaper, and light age toning. Shelved Room A. BAL 10537. 1372674. Special Collections.
Synopsis
The Europeans concerns an expatriate American, Eugenia, and her artist brother, Felix Young. Eugenia is the morganatic wife of a German prince, but she is to be repudiated in favor of a state marriage; thus she leaves for Boston to make an appropriate match of her own.

I enjoyed this book immensely. It blended the old and new world creatively. It's philosophical underpinnings were interesting. It was not a bestseller at the time, moreover, it probably is now. I like books that use the English Language in it's old form.
