London: Printed for Frederick Etchells and Hugh Macdonald at 12 Kensington Place, 1925. Full vellum. Very Good/No Jacket.

England's Helicon is an anthology of Elizabethan pastoral poems compiled by John Flasket, and first published in 1600. There was an enlarged edition in 1614. The word Helicon refers to the Greek mountain on which, in Greek mythology, two springs sacred to the Muses were located.

This is a page for page reprint of the first edition of 1600, with 9 additional poems from the edition of 1614 (p. [203]-218).

The compiler is ascribed to John Bodenham, who probably projected the work and befriended the editor, the "A.B." (as yet unidentified) who signed the dedication and prefatory sonnet in the first edition. More recently ascribed to Nicholas Ling. [Introd. & Dict. Nat. Biog.]

The poets involved cannot all be identified, since there are a number of poems marked as 'anonymous'. The others were written by Edmund Bolton, William Byrd, Henry Chettle, Michael Drayton, Robert Greene, Christopher Marlowe, Anthony Munday, George Peele, Walter Raleigh, Henry Constable, William Shakespeare, Edward de Vere, Philip Sidney, Edmund Spenser, John Wootton, William Smith.

The most celebrated poem is Marlowe's 'Come live with me and be my love'. This and several other lyrics have musical settings extant, in this case by William Corkine. [wiki]

Full vellum with gilt spine titles and a gilt emblem on the front; Limited Edition - Hand-Numbered 35/900. Good bindings; vellum has aged as typical with a spot on the lower front corner. Bindings are string tired and have rubbed through vellum at the spine edge. . ix p., reprint: (3 p. l., [9]- p.) [201]-256 p. with notes and index of first lines. 24 cm / 9.5 inches tall. Interior is without flaw.

Only 5 Copies are located in institutions, none in the USA. [OCLC, 222186404] -

Description:
New York: G.P. Putnam's Sons / The Knickerbocker Press, 1927. Half-Leather. Very Good/No Jacket. Corners a bit rubbed, boards faintly soiled, ink date and owner bookplate of Robert N. Cherry on front flyleaf. 1927 Half-Leather. iv, 325 pp. 8vo. No binder's ticket, but appears to be a contemporary custom rebinding: blue leather spine and corners over blue cloth, gilt titles and rules, top edge gilt, new end sheets. "The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin is the traditional name for the unfinished record of his own life written by Benjamin Franklin from 1771 to 1790; however, Franklin himself appears to have called the work his Memoirs. Although it had a tortuous publication history after Franklin's death, this work has become one of the most famous and influential examples of an autobiography ever written. Franklin's account of his life is divided into four parts, reflecting the different periods at which he wrote them.
