About This Item
Motilal Banarsidass . Hardcover. New. The aim of the series is to provide translation of this outstanding contribution to the Vedanta philosophy for wider dissemination to the national and international community of Vedanta scholars and indologists. The Brhaddranyaka is the biggest and most important one among principal Upanisads and contains numerous discussions of teachers, pupils, questioners and others. It reveals and affirms neti, neti, i.e. indescribability of the Brahman, the ultimate Truth. The Bhasya of Sankara on this Upanisad has assumed a very great significance in Vedantic literature. The Varttika of Suregvara on the Brhaddranyakopanisad is truly his magnum opus and needed to be translated in full. It is an analytical, critical and comprehensive work. The volumes of the series provide translation together with annotation maintaining the gravity of the original verses of Sureivara. This voluminous work has been rather neglected though Suregvara gives in it a fuller explanation of Monistic Advaita Philosophy on the basis of the great Upanisad, making his own contribution to it.
