London: Elkin Mathews and John Lane, 1893 First edition. Unnumbered copy (ordinary edition). HB. Black cloth with gilt title to spine and front, with gilt decorative border to title on front cover. Gilt top page edges. With pictorial title page in art nouveau style, as is the cover decoration, both designed by Warrington Hogg. 29pp, plus publisher's catalogue. Square 16mo size. Printed on laid paper. Poetic text about Faust and Mephistopheles visiting heaven and swapping places with two young lovers; nicely written and a stylish little volume, with a flavour of 1890s decadence. Very Good condition. Covers have bright gilt and a few light marks. Pages well-bound and clean, with browned edges and light foxing to endpapers and leaves at ends. Nice copy.
