About This Item
London: Allen & Unwin, 1968. Boards. Good +/very good. An intimate account of voyage #424 on board the Cunard liner, 'Queen Elizabeth'. Along the way, the reader is given an inside look at the day-to-day running of the ship and life aboard her - from cocktails in the Commodore's sitting room and dinner at his table, to the pre-dawn watch on the bridge as the 83,000-ton liner rides out a North Atlantic storm. All of her innermost secrets are revealed, including the technological marvels of her radar and stabilizer fins, to the complex and highly polished routines of her 1,190-man crew. Woven into this chronicle is the ship's proud history, from her launching at Clydebank in 1938 and her gallant war service, to her glamorous post-war career (to publication date). A truly fascinating read for any fan of Cunard, ocean liners, or ships and the sea in general. Contains 235-pages, 22 x 14cm, with 32-pages of b&w photos, 1 x fold-out internal deck layout, plus statistical appendices. Ex-library, remains of label on front endpaper, free front endpaper removed, no library marks. Blue cloth boards in very good pictorial dust jacket. Internally, Good+: clean, bright and unmarked in sound bindings.
