About This Item

[ London ]: [ Harrison & Sons ], 1875. Boards. Good. [3]-44 pages. Plus 3 folding diagrams in the rear. Lacks a title page or the original wrappers. Preserved in old cloth over marbled boards. Ink stamp of "La Lumiere Electrique" Paris and "INSCRIT" on the first page. From the Edward Caldwell Electrical Collection at Knox College (stamp on front flyleaf). W. Heffer & Sons bookseller ticket on front pastedown. INSCRIBED by author Charles William Siemens: "chimiques, a la manufacture de Sevres avec les compliments de l'auteur" or "chemicals, at the manufacture of Sèvres with the compliments of the author" Boards. Publication information from OCLC entry 19950417 which notes this work is found in "Electrical papers from Lord Rayleigh's Library. [#12] as an 'Extract from the Transactions of the Society of Telegraph Engineers.'" If so, it would have been Vol III, 1874, pages 296-338. The fact that the pagination here starts with [3] leads us to believe this may have been an offprint of the paper, now lacking it's wrappers. The article also appears in the Scientific Works of C. William Siemens (Vol 2, Electricity and Miscellaneous, London: John Murray, 1889).

Items inscribed by Siemens are not often found in the marketplace.
