First edition of the chronology of the Ptolemaic rulers of Egypt, installed by Alexander the Great, until the Death of Cleopatra. It was written by the elder brother of Jean Francois Champollion, decryptor of the Rosetta Stone, after his premature death. Illustrated with two plates depicting coins during the Ptolemaic era, and one plate offering a general view of the reign of the Lagids. Volume two contains an extended chronological canon of the history of the Lagids. Text in French. Wraps with some wear along edges, small chips and some sunning and light staining. Block uncut at bottom and foredge with signatures unopened at top.

Four volume complete set, of which two are elephant folio volumes depicting 296 facsimile colored plates and the additional two volumes are 8vo English text descriptions. Half dark blue morocco over blue cloth with six raised bands each. Gilt particulars to spines; all edges gilt. The additional smaller volumes have bright red cloth with gilt titles to spines. Chip to hinge of volume one. Dewey decimal blindstamped to foot of spines of folios. Overall, nice clean copies without previous owners' names or other markings. A large and quite heavy set. Folios measure 16 x 22 in, while the 8vo are 6.75 x 10.25 in.
