Norman, OK: University of Oklahoma Press, 1956. STATED FIRST EDITION. Full light grey cloth with green inked decoration of a plant on the front board. Green lettering on the spine. Book is in like new condition with no signs of wear. Jacket has been price-clipped, shows light wear and has small closed tears at the top & bottom of spine. Overall a EXCELLENT book in a VERY GOOD dust jacket. Edward Palmer (1829 - 1911) was a self-taught British botanist. Born in England, he spent most of his life in the United States, where he was employed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture as a botanist. He led an expedition in 1891 exploring the flora and fauna of California and particularly Death Valley. He also collected specimens in Mexico and South America and had about 200 species and one genus (Palmerella) of plants named after him. The standard botanical author abbreviation Palmer is applied to species he described. . First Edition. Full Cloth. Fine/Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Hardcover.
