Prescott, [AZ]:(1972 and 1964): Yavapai Cow Belles. Octavo. Vol. 1, Third edition,159 pages. Vol. 2. First edition, xii, 312 pages. index. The firsthand accounts and memories of those in Yavapai county are told here for the first time with some additional research from the Sharlot Hall Museum. For the first time we have constructed from manuscript records, such as Eva Favour's "Journey of Arizona's Territorial Party," based mostly on Associate Justice Joseph P. Allyn's account. Gail Gardner's account is one of the best on cowboys in the area, Chapters in Volume I include: "The Cowboy Camp Meeting", "A Pioneer in the Verde Valley" with many illustrations. Volume 2 has Barry Goldwater's article on "Ambush in Mint Valley", Jerome the ghost city, early days doctors, merchants and "In the Shadows of Old Camp Hualapai". The best picture of the area in the Territorial period. Ray Brandes writes: "intimate glimpses of the Millers, Charley Genung, John Townsend. Prescott of the 1860's, Castle Hot Springs". C.L. Sonnichsen "I learned something new on every page". Volume I bound in green paper covered boards stamped in gilt and black, spine lettering gilt, a fine copy in near fine clipped pictorial dust jacket, volume II bound in salmon cloth, spine lettering black.
