First hardcover American edition and first combined American edition. Single line advert on the verso of the title page: "Journey to the Center of the Earth, $2.00". Original burgundy gilt stamped cloth cover.
Book is in Fair condition, with spine cover detatched at rear joint, fully attached at front joint. Significant edgewear to spine cover. Spine lightly cocked. Cover boards mostly worn at corners, some bumping. Top edge corner of front cover has some fraying of cloth along top ~1" of edge. Rear cover board has some staining.
Hinges starting. Prior owner bookplate pasted on front endpaper. Older looking prior owner signature in front endpapers.
Pages are intact, some areas weakening. Some spotting throughout. Some smudges, mostly on page edges. Text fully readable.
