New York: D. Appleton, 1882. Hardcover. Very Good. First edition. First four volumes only of a five volume set. Quartos. viii, 504pp. viii, 504pp. viii, 504pp. viii, 516pp. Edited by E.G. Ravenstein. Illustrated with numerous engravings and maps present. Three-quarter leather with brown cloth boards, gilt-stamped and new marbled endpapers. Decorative bookplate (some with marker on them) for "The Charles S. Boyer Memorial Library" affixed to all four front pastedowns, reinforced hinges, faint dampstain on bottom corners of volume two, extremities rubbed, still a very good but incomplete set. Volume 1: Greece, Turkey in Europe, Rumania, Servia, Montenegro, Italy, Spain, and Portugal; Volume 2: France and Switzerland; Volume 3: Austria-Hungary, Germany, Belgium, and The Netherlands; Volume 4: The British Isles. Lacking Volume 5. Philadelphian Charles S. Boyer was a prominent U.S. Diatomist and member of The Academy of Natural Sciences.
