New York: Ballantine Books 1st Printings 1963-1967 ----------paperbacks, 41 BOOKS IN TOTAL, ALL FIRST BALLANTINE US PRINTINGS. From 1963 to 1967, Ballantine published 41 books by Edgar Rice Burroughs (and associational): the 25 TARZAN BOOKS (24 by Burroughs, 1 by Fritz Leiber), the 11 MARS BOOKS, THE WAR CHIEF, APACHE DEVIL, THE LAD AND THE LION, THE MUCKER, and TREASURE OF THE BLACK FALCON (by Burroughs son, John Coleman Burroughs). Ballantine reprinted the Tarzan and Mars books (and to some extent the 2 Apache books) over the years, but it wasn't until 1990 that Ballantine/Del Rey started printing Burroughs titles they hadn't published before. Offered here is the ENTIRE 41-BOOK SERIES of all these Ballantine early (1963-1967) printings, and ALL are FIRST PRINTINGS. Cover artists are as follows: Richard Powers (Tarzan 1 to 22), Bob Abbett (Tarzan 23 to 25, all the Mars books, and probably Treasure of the Black Falcon), Ronnie M. Lessor (The War Chief & Apache Devil) and R. Bartram (The Lad and the Lion). Tarzan 25, The Mucker, and Treasure of the Black Falcon bear an original cover price of $0.75, while all the other books have a cover price of $0.50. As for condition, only 1 book, Apache Devil, can be classified as good, due to several cover creases. The other books range from VG to near fine (my highest rating), with most being at least VG+. There are a few minor creases, mild edgewear, shelfwear, mild toning inside covers and store stamps. Some are obviously unread, and close to as new. A list of the books and publisher numbers in this ENTIRE early Ballantine series follows. TARZAN: #1 F745 Tarzan of the Apes, #2 F746 The Return of Tarzan, #3 F747 The Beasts of Tarzan, #4 F748 The Son of Tarzan, #5 F749 Tarzan and the Jewels of Opar, #6 F750 Jungle Tales of Tarzan, #7 F751 Tarzan the Untamed, #8 F752 Tarzan the Terrible, #9 F753 Tarzan and the Golden Lion, #10 F754 Tarzan and the Ant Men, #11 F772 Tarzan Lord of the Jungle, #12 F777 Tarzan and the Lost Empire, #13 U2013 Tarzan at the Earth's Core, #14 U2014 Tarzan the Invincible, #15 U2015 Tarzan Triumphant, #16 U2016 Tarzan and the City of Gold, #17 U2017 Tarzan and the Lion Man, #18 U2018 Tarzan and the Leopard Men, #19 U2019 Tarzan's Quest, #20 U2020 Tarzan and the Forbidden City, #21 U2021 Tarzan the Magnificent, #22 U2022 Tarzan and the Foreign Legion, #23 U2023 Tarzan and the Madman, #24 U2024 Tarzan and the Castaways and #25 U6125 Tarzan and the Valley of Gold (by Fritz Leiber, a FIRST EDITION). MARS: #1 F701 A Princess of Mars, #2 F702 The Gods of Mars, #3 F711 The Warlord of Mars, #4 F770 Thuvia Maid of Mars, #5 F776 The Chessmen of Mars, #6 U2036 The Master Mind of Mars, #7 U2037 A Fighting Man of Mars, #8 F728 Swords of Mars, #9 F739 Synthetic Men of Mars, #10 F762 Llana of Gathol and #11 U2041 John Carter of Mars. Mass Market Paperback. Very Good. Illus. by Bob Abbett, Richard Powers, Ronnie M. Lessor & R. Bartram (front covers).
