New York: The Viking Press, 1943. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7. Type: Hardback First Edition. Hardcover Book in Very Good Condition, without Jacket. Nine maps of campaigns; Fifteen illustration plates. A biography of the man who defeated Napoleon at Waterloo. Green cloth w/black titles, light soiling on front, with brown spots near lower front corner. Light edgewear and rubbing of edges. Black lettering with two lions on front. The upper corner has damp stain on the text block fore edge and on the corner of some pages; there are occasional smudges on a few pages. It is a solid, tight, handsome volume nevertheless and an intriguing history of Wellington the man as well as of his campaigns. A fine biography of the Duke's long, arduous and supremely useful life, with his career extending and embracing the period of the French Revolution, the Western embroilment in the Far East, of Napoleon's domination of the continent, of vast technological and social changes--and ultimately Waterloo and the succeeding four decades of his life as the power and symbol of England. 405 pages, indexed. 8vo - over 7" - 9" tall. 1943, The Viking Press,
