Signed by a former owner on the front pastedown. The jacket has moderate edgewear; the headcap of the jacket is chipped. Clean and unfoxed within. A collection of essays by a Methodist minister who was born in Petersburg and lived in Richmond. The essays are on a variety of topics including Methodism, friendship, happiness, and poety (he discusses in separate essays Edgar Allan Poe, John Greenleaf Whittier, and Robert Burns).
