Colour illustrated card cover, being a part reproduction of Paul Klee's print "Underwater Garden", with black coloured titles to the front panel and black and white coloured titles to the backstrip. In a post nuclear world, between eastern and western powers, the United States is running out of oil. Hitting on the idea of sending submarines to vast underwater deposits (in the eastern powers control) to siphon off some of the oil – 20 submarines have been sent, none have returned. "The Dragon in the Sea tells of the final attempt to reach the all reservoir by four men in the submarine Fenian Ram." -- from the rear panel blurb. Creasing to the book corners and staining to the lower one quarter of the pages – from start to finish. Synopsis
The Dragon in the Sea (1956), also known as Under Pressure from its serialization, is a novel by Frank Herbert. It was first serialized in Astounding magazine from 1955 to 1956, then reworked and published as a book in 1956. (A 1961 2nd printing of the Avon paperback, catalog # G-1092, was titled 21st Century Sub with the original title in parentheses. ) It is usually classified as a psychological novel.
