Campbell was born at Glack in County Tyrone on 4 May 1733. He was educated at Trinity College, Dublin (B.A. 1756, M.A. 1761), and took orders in 1761. He was curate of Clogher until 1772, when he was collated to the prebend of Tyholland, and in 1773 he was made chancellor of St Macartan's Cathedral, Clogher. He was a preacher. He died on 20 June 1795 in London. Thick 8vo, approximately 265 x 180 mm, 10½ x 7 inches, title page printed red and black, colour frontispiece, numerous illustrations in the text, pages: 713-1234 plus errata leaf and including index, original publisher's green cloth, gilt lettering and decoration to spine and upper cover, top edges gilt, dark green endpapers. Ex library copy with very faint trace of number at tail of spine, signs of bookplate removal on front pastedown, no other library signs, slight rippling to frontispiece, and to top third of title page and first few pages, contents otherwise clean and bright.
