Lausanne-Paris: La Bibliotheque Des Arts, 1973, 1974. First Edition. Hardcover. Fine/Fine. 8vo 8" - 9" tall. Sterling condition set of two hardcover copies, with unbruised tips, tight bindings, and clean internals, showing only very slight shelf- and edge-wear; not ex-library, with neither underlining nor highlighting anywhere. Both volumes feature intact silk-linen ribbon bookmarks, and a handsome, burgundy leatherette cover, pebbly of texture, with gilt titling to spines and blind-stamped covers in FV, and featuring hand-sewn text-block. Bright and shiny paper dust jackets, illustrated, showing only very minor wear, protected by plastic coats, dust jackets not being price-clipped. Volume I covers the period from 1884-1899, at 316 pp., including Table of Contents, Preface, notes and bibliography, replete with black-and-white illustrations and photographs, including facsimile letters, woodcut drawings, portraits of leading lights of French literature such as Lautreamont, Paul Verlaine and Stephane Mellarme. Volume II is 315 pp. in length and features a fine frontis photograph of Vallotton in his garden. Comprises an important lens through which to look at the contributions to French history and culture and art history by Paul Adam, Leon Bloy, Felix Feneon, Remy de Gourmont, Francis Jammes, Stephane Mallarme, Charles Maurin, Misia et Thadee Natanson, Jules Renard, Edouard Vuillard et beaucoup d'autres . . .Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards.
