[8], 138, [2 (publisher ads)] pp. An anonymous tract, one from a series of tracts in which Payne, a Church of England clergyman, takes aim at aspects of Catholic doctrine. Throughout his short time in public life, Payne was known for being an excellent preacher but regularly in the middle of controversial topics. Printed in black with printed marginal citations and notes in Latin and Greek. Removed from a binding; sewing loosed in the process and thick textblock is in two pieces. Complete, including preliminary leaf with the license to print as well as the two-page publisher's advertisement at the rear. Uncommon. ESTC R12583; DNB.
