About This Item
New York, NY: Broadway Books/Random House, 2006. First Edition, 5th Printing . Soft cover. New/None as Issued. Kymtra Design (Illustrations). BRAND NEW Copy. Historical sketch, biography & suspense story, based on French mathematician Rene Descartes's (1959 - 1650) secret note book by Amir D. Aczel (also a mathematician). For Descartes, mathematical theories were also paths towards understanding the cosmos. The notes, written in code, were kept hidden lest the ideas would trigger persecution by The Inquisition. After Descartes's death, in 1676, Gottfried Leibniz (inventor of calculus) locates the notes, which he was able to decipher on the spot, and was allowed to copy a few pages. 273 pgs, w/illustrations in 21 chapters.
