About This Item
Roma: Stabilimento Tipografico "Aternum" di Enrico Sabucchi, 1915. Paperback. 54p., illustrated with plentiful b&w photographs, plat & line maps and diagrammatic floorplans and elevations; softbound a folio-sized paperback in 13.5x9.5 textured gray wraps. A very useful book in very bad shape: the photos of the ongoing construction of the imitation renaissance architecture demonstrates how well-built this and doubtless other venues were made, and how large an extent: numerous buildings and spacious courtyards. Boggling that is was meant to last only nine months. Also find plenty of facades and interiors of finished fakes; we are spared most of the usual plethora of art and sculpture. Drawbacks: it is missing two of the tipped-on color plates; the one that remains (an impressionist view of "Il Cortiletto" under tissue guard) suggests these showed usual art renderings. Missing are the cover plate (no caption) and, in the back under empty guard, "La Piatzetta". Further drawback, the wraps are separating from text and textblock threads are slack (one sees left-hand spinefold covered in glue residue). As is, you'll like it.
