About This Item
London: Faber and Faber Limited, 1930. Cloth. Very Good Indeed. 9" by 6". None. A scarce limited edition revised copy of Henry Williamson's second book in his 'The Flax of a Dream' series, signed and numbered by the author. Henry Williamson was a renowned English author of wildlife novels and works on English social history, and recipient of the ''Hawthornden Prize' for literature in 1928 for his book 'Tarka the Otter'. 'The Flax of Dream' series was published in intervals, beginning with the first volume (and Williamson"s first published book) 'The Beautiful Years' in 1921. Each of the four works in the series were intended to be parts of one volume, and were eventually published in this form in 1936. The series follow the life of William Beare Maddison (Willie) from his lonely and turbulent childhood in the West Country to his tragic adult-years in the coastal countryside of North Devon. The work was actually based on Williamson"s own early life, but is by no means literally biographical. This volume, 'Dandelion Days', details Willie's tempestuous schooldays, and his frequent escapes to the countryside. This limited edition copy printed on English hand-made paper was limited to two hundred copies, of which this is number 45. This copy is signed by Henry Williamson and numbered in ink to the limited edition colophon page. In the publisher's original cloth binding with gilt title to the front board and spine. Externally generally smart, with minor shelfwear to extremities and head and tail of spine. Marking to boards and fading to spine, as usual with this colour binding. Slight offsetting to endpapers. Signed and numbered in ink by author to the limited edition colophon page. Internally firmly bound. Pages very bright and clean throughout. Very Good Indeed
