Illustrator: Photographic. acknowledgements, introduction by author, select bibliography and index. The text is illustrated with a double page map of Australia at the beginning of the text and two inserts of eight pages each of contemporary black and white photographs. Pale orange coloured boards with ochre coloured illustration to the front panel and ochre coloured titles to the backstrip. Illustrated dustwrapper with white and black titles to the front panel and yellow and white coloured titles to the backstrip. Black-and-white photograph of Daisy Bates to the rear dustwrapper panel. The biography of Daisy Bates who was known as the West Australian aborigines as Kabbarli -- grandmother, and who for over 50 years, lived with and fought for a people who were reviled and ignored at that time. Softening of the back strip edges with rubbing of the book corners and lower book edges. Age toning of the text block edges and pages. Chipping to the dustwrapper corners and back strip edges. The edges show small closed tears with rubbing to the dustwrapper panels. Fading to the back strip. Original price sticker to the lower right hand corner of the front fold over panel with light browning to the verso. There is a coffee ring stains to the front panel. This is the first USA edition.
