About This Item

First edition. Nezval (1900-1958) was one of the outstanding twentieth-century Czech poets, a leading light of Czech poetism and, later, surrealism, as well as an early member of the avant-garde group Devětsil. He was famous both for his energy as an organizer of the Czech avant-garde and for his prolific output of highly lyrical and associative verse. The present work, published in March 1932, contains seven different cycles and works, including one on the topic of revolution and revolt, and one which is subtitled a script for sound film, as well as more lyric works. With a lengthy gift inscription by Nezval to one Karel Matoušek of Brno.

In the original cloth binding designed by Karel Teige, with Teige's typographic half-title, title and table of contents. This copy appears to lack the original photo-montage wrapper by Teige, which is usually bound in at back of the hardcover copies (the work was also issued in softcover).

Karel Teige a typografie 412-415 (pp. 167-168). Vloemans 259. First edition.
