The author died of consumption at the age of 25. He is considered part of the "Knickerbocker Group" including Fitz-Green Hallock, Washington Irving, William Cullen Bryant et al. Poe mocked his work. Bookplate of Parsce E. Simmons. Frontispiece off Drake and two illustrations.
