About This Item

UK,8vo wraps,Uncorrected Book Proof. [Often of limited availability, the text of a forthcoming book,is printed and bound in softcovers for use by the author, editors, proofreaders and some favoured reviewers. For undecorated printed wraps, with minimal publication data imprinted - the produced/released number of copies would almost certainly be less than 500,and most probably would tend to be around 200 copies. For glossy pictorial illustrated wrappers, produced numbers are often higher than 200,but either have a scarcity to them.Often errors or earlier versions of text appear in these proofs.Versions where the text has changed considerably are obviously considered more desirable by their nature.] FINE. No owner inscrptn.Bright,crisp,clean,sharp-cornered -except front lower corner tip with a small crease, glossy wrap-around white background wraps with author's thumbnail b/w photographic portrait to upper wrap, and author's capitalised, black lettered name to top edge, lower cased black-lettered title beneath; black-lettered Volume Two of The Border Trilogy that began with All The Pretty Horses legend,a critic's [The Guardian] black-lettered review and capitalised,black-lettered UNCORRECTED BOOK PROOF etc legend to front's lower edge, and very faint writing impressions to upper wrap.A flat white spine with similarly coloured+lettered author+title as the front's and publisher's capitalised,black-lettered/illustrated name/colophon to foot of same, rear cover with with publisher's black-lettered blurb and synopsis and publisher's promotional information of format, price, ISBN and publication date and repeated capitalised UNCORRECTED BOOK PROOF etc., legend to lower edge.Negligible shelf-wear to edges and corners - no nicks, tears or splits present.Top+fore-edges exceptionally bright, crisp and clean without blemish,ageing/toning nor any foxing/spotting; contents bright, tight, clean, solid and sound - virtually pristine - with no dog-ear reading creases to any pages' corners.UK,8vo wraps,Uncorrected Book Proof copy,5-421pp [paginated] includes IV (4) chapters; plus [unpaginated] half-title with synopsis with author's other titles listed to its reverse,a title separator page, title page, another title separator page, and the first 2pp of novel. Visually the exterior appearance is more than acceptable and particularly internally,is in an exceptional condition/state of preservation and presentation for a book of its 30-year-old age and nature, i.e an ephemeral paperback Proof copy. It is only the minimal faults described that prevents a slightly higher grading overall.Despite that,it really is still an exemplary example for its cleanliness, brightness and lack of other detracting faults usually encountered with a decades old paperback. An uncommon proof copy particularly as a UK edn/issue.

Synopsis

The Crossing is the seventh novel by author Cormac McCarthy, and the second in The Border Trilogy,  after All The Pretty Horses .   The Crossing , takes place before and during the Second World War and focuses on teenage cowboy Billy Parham and his family, following Parham on a journey to return a she-wolf to her home in the northern Mexican mountains. The novel is noted as more melancholic than All the Pretty Horses , although not as dark as McCarthy's previous work.
