A first edition folio containing Wheatley's thirteen prints of the Cries of London, illustrating social life in the City of London in the eighteenth century. W Roberts discusses Francis Wheatley's famous art prints The Cries of London, which illustrate the life of street sellers in the streets of London, representing the working class of the eighteenth century. The series of oil painting was exhibited a the Royal Academy between 1792 and 1795. The first edition of 1924.With an introduction by Reginald Grundy. Illustrated with thirteen plates in colour and one plate in half tone. Collated, complete. In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally very smart with only minor shelf wear and a slight bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. With a small library label to the spine, as well as a library bookplate to the front pastedown, and its stamps to the recto and verso of the title page, and to the recto and verso of each leaf of plate. Internally, firmly bound. The pages are bright and clean. Illustrated with thirteen plates in colour and one plate in half tone. Collated, complete. Very Good
