A comedic play in three acts by Anatole France, first performed in 1903. This play was adapted by France from one of his earlier short stories, a dramatic comedy on the unjust treatment of a small tradesman. France was anoteld poet, novelist, and man of letters. In 1921 he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature. Undated, dated from WorldCat.Bookplate of Lady Maxwell Scott to the recto of the front endpaper. Marie-Louise was the second wife of Sir Walter Constable-Maxwell-Scott, who was the great-great-grandson of Sir Walter Scott. In a quarter calf binding with marbled paper to the boards. Externally, smart. A little light rubbing to the boards and spine. Minor bumping to the extremities. Spine is a little discoloured. Small amount of loss of paper to the extremities. Bookplate to the recto of the front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with only a few scattered spots. Very Good Indeed
