The fire engines are of the handtub, or hand-drawn variety. There is also a "protection engine" for home/farm use, a green house engine and a couple of garden engines. Each of thiese is depicted with ornamental scrollwork and other refinements, and each carries a detailed description of the enhancements made to functional parts. Description:
First edition of the first published lecture by William Morris. Scarce in this exemplary state. Description: Sewn as issued in publisher's printed light blue paper wrappers. Duodecimo: 18 × 12 cm; pp. 32.
Condition: Light age toning to edges of covers. Internally clean and free of marks. According to its age a near fine copy.
Notes: In 'The Decorative Arts' Morris first formulated his guiding principle that the decline in the artistic quality of the things around us was the result of the separation of art and craft, and that only a reunion of art and craft could lead to better design. Morris repeated and refined this idea in various lectures he gave between 1877 and 1885. It was also this principle that eventually led to the founding of the Kelmscott Press.

Description:
Redlands, California: Pure Gold, [1955]. Stapled wraps. Very good. [12p.] Small chips to wrap edges. The Mutual Orange Distributors (MOD) was founded in Redlands, California, in 1906 as a cooperative marketing association representing citrus growers in California. Within a few years, the coop included citrus growers in western Arizona. In 1955, MOD changed its name to Pure Gold, originally the brand name for fruit grown by the approximately 2,500 MOD growers. Sunkist took over the Pure Gold trademark when the co-op closed in 1987 due to housing developments replacing the citrus fields and the shrinking number of packing plants. This booklet explains the history of the citrus-growing culture in California and Arizona and provides information on the variety of oranges, lemons, and grapefruit grown and their cultivation and packaging. A map on the back shows the regions represented by the Pure Gold cooperative. Scarce, none located in OCLC. B&w illustrations and halftone photographs. (11"x8-1/2")

There he was influenced by Johann Gustav Droysen and Johann Kaspar Bluntschli, the latter also becoming his mentor.
