New York: Charles Scribners Sons, 1962. Nice copy in orange brown boards with one lightly bumped tip and light cupping to base of spine. First printing. Attractive, clean copy. Textblock tight and square. Owner signature on front endpaper. No other markings. Price intact jacket is bright and fresh with no tears, creasing, fading or rubbing though it does have a very tiny chip at gutter of rear panel near base of spine. Scribners A and date 6-66 (v) on copyright page and June '66 on front flap base. In mylar. . First American Edition. Cloth. Near Fine/Fine. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
Synopsis
Cover Her Face is the debut 1962 crime novel of P. D. James. It details the investigations by her poetry-writing detective Adam Dalgliesh into the death of a young, ambitious maid, surrounded by a family which has reasons to want her gone - or dead. The title is taken from a passage from John Webster's The Duchess of Malfi: "Cover her face. Mine eyes dazzle; she died young."
