The Courting of Dinah Shadd and Other Stories With a Biographical and Critical Sketch by Andrew Lang. 1st American edition (preceding the first authorized American edition. ) In The Athenaeum of October 4, 1890, on the authority of Mr. Kipling, it was stated that these stories had been collected by Messrs. Harper without permission, and they were accused of literary piracy, an accusation which Harper denied. Livinston 57. Xii, 182, ads [2] pp. Losses to the paper spine and inner margins of wraps, corners slightly rounded. Ownership scrawled on title page. Marginal pencilling to ads, a cello tape repair. First time a portrait of Kipling appears in one of his books. This along with "Holy War" [2] leaves. Lon: Methuen & Co. , (nd) , (Written 1917 at top of p2). Toned. Lot consists of 2 pieces. .
