About This Item

British Library in association with The British Academy, London, first edition, 2001. Cloth, 8vo,. xlvi, 254 pp, [4] pp of plates. Catalogs in Latin, with English introduction and commentaries. From the introduction: "This volume is the second volume of the longer Benedictine catalogues to appear in the series. ..Peterborough abbey, the subject of the present work, is not known for the size of its medieval library or the number of its surviving books, and yet its collection is represented by a remarkable range of surviving evidence; the largest catalogue, the so-called Matricularium, lists some 1900 titles in nearly 350 volumes. The Matricularium is a complicated document that has presented some uniquely difficult and interesting challenges to its editors. New.
