Washington DC: Office of the Chief of Military History, 1970. [1970] Hardcover [not published with dustjacket]; red binding, gilt lettering and eagle; 252 pages. Condition: Binding lightly age darken binding (completely faded spine; perhaps from the sun); several stains on top cover, else overall Good. Internally: Preliminaries and text block Near Fine. Text is clear, very readable. Illustrations are vivid. Free of smelly humidity stains and the smell of a cigarette or cigar smoker. This informative book is a collection of accounts describing the combat action of small Army units. These are the units engaged in special combat, suffer the casualties, and make up the fighting strength of the battalion, regiments, divisions, corps, and finally the field army. The author describes combat as individuals have experienced it, or the way it appeared from the company command post. Details and incidents of combat were furnished by surviving members of the squads and companies, including the men who fought at Heartbreak Ridge. Exciting, historical.
