About This Item
San Francisco: Children's Ballet Theatre, [1947]. Good. Four placards varying slightly in size, most approximately 18 x 12 inches; eight illustrated costume designs and one set design, 18 x 15 inches. Placards printed in blue on white stock; one placard is a mock-up, with holograph lettering in red, black and brown. Costume and set designs in pencil and watercolor on sturdy stock, each signed by the artist. Toning and heavy foxing to one placard; another placard with a tide mark to the lower edge; light soiling and occasional light spotting to some of the costume designs. A collection of material for the San Francisco Children's Ballet performances of 1947, which included "Cinderella," "The Feast of the Spider,' "Peter and the Wolf," "Hansel and Gretel," and "The Magic Umbrella." The costume and set designs are signed "Vern," most likely Vern Nerden, who was involved in the production of these shows. Nerden went on to become a renowned teacher of children's ballet in the Bay Area for over 25 years, sending numerous pupils to Juliard and professional ballet companies.
