First American edition, translated from the second French edition. xl + 365 pp. 12mo., calf with red gilt leather spine label. Ornate older bookplate with ink ownership on front pastedown; pencil ownership on front flyleaf. Covers edgeworn, gilt label bright. Moderate to light foxing in the text and end matter. Uncommon in the first edition, with many later printings.
