New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1882. Hardcover. Very Good -. xi, [1], 70 p.: tissue-guarded frontispiece, 30 full-page illustrations; 26 cm. Publisher's grey cloth with red, black, and gilt embossed spine title, cover title, and cover illustration and decoration. Boards have bevelled edges. All page edges gilt. Dark brown endpapers with black decoration. Half-title on verso of frontispiece. Title vignette: portrait of author. French military history told from the perspective of a family of army drummers. In Very Good- Condition: cover lightly soiled; edges lightly rubbed; front hinge weak; back hinge just starting to crack; occasional foxing along gutter; otherwise pages and illustrations are clean and bright.
