New York: Leavitt & Allen. Very Good. 1854. Hardcover. Woodcuts; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 160 pages; 1854 Leavitt & Allen, New York. HC 1st edition presumed. Soundly bound in original grain patterned black cloth with decorative framing and borders in gilt to cover board and in blind to rear; decorative title panel in gilt to spine. All edges gilt. Mild shelf bumping to corner tips and trace fray to cloth at spine ends. Prior 1854 ownership penciled to front endpage; a pair of owner names (Slaymakers of Lancaster, PA) penned to the title page. Scattered mild finger soiling and spotting but contents are generally bright and neat. Illustrated with woodcut plates and in text. Uncommon with only 9 copies found in institutional holdings searched by Worldcat. VG .
