The author initially carried out research for this work in Penang between 1957 and 1959 and the results were published in 1959 by the Malayan Branch of the Royal Asiatic Society. Jones updated his research in 1995, which enabled him to produce this more up to date and expanded edition. The work is extensive covering such aspects as the components of names,variations in these, characters used, Western spellings and the changing of names. The work mainly concentrates on names used in Mandarin, Cantonese, Hokkien and Teochew. Near Fine Paperback Revised and Expanded Edition Weight 0.5kg.
