Duodecimo (180x115mm) contemporary quarter bound brown sheepskin, gilt ruled and lettered spine, burgundy marbled boards, green marbled end-papers, all-edges speckled, [4],173,[3]pp; twelve chromolithographic colour plates; green marker ribbon. In French.

Spine lightly sunned, head and foot lightly rubbed; boards faint edge-wear and a small scuff; occasional light foxing and offset toning not affecting the text or images. The colour plates are bright and ten have complete tissue guards.  Bookplate "Ex Libris Jacques Helene Bon" to front paste-down.

A charming practical guide to edible mushrooms and truffles including .  Chapters I to V are about the common and less well known edible mushrooms of France, their foraging, cultivation, preserving and cooking.  Mushrooms illustrated include field mushrooms, morels, ceps, chanterelles, and 'saffron milkcaps',  chapters VII and VIII are about identifying poisonous mushrooms and how to treat poisonings; chapters IX to XI are about truffles, their natural history, attempts at cultivation, preserving and cooking with truffles.

Rémy was a French explorer and naturalist.  In 1851-1855 he traveled to South America, spending three years in the Sandwich Islands.  In 1863 he traveled to India and Central Asia.
