Based on Joseph Heller's searing 1961 antiwar novel, about a US Air Force bombardier seeking an escape from the endless, senseless brutality of World War II. Director Mike Nichol's third feature film, released the same year as Robert Altman's "MASH."
Set in the Mediterranean, shot on location in Sonora, Mexico and Rome.
