About This Item
Hardcover. Edit. by John J. Shillinglaw. Lockwood & Co, London 1866, 1st UK edition. Sml. 8vo, 174pp, (2), 16pp ads, woodcut frontis portrait, folding map. Orig. blue gilt cloth. Bit rubbed & dusty, g+. Not in Spence, Ferguson 13031. Musgrave's ship ran aground in the Auckland Islands in 1864. After 20 months on the island, the author & some of his men sailed a 13 foot dinghy to New Zealand where they dispatched a ship for the rest of the crew. (Shades of Shackleton and "Endurance"!) A wonderful survival narrative not in Huntress. Australian edition published in 1865 in paper wrappers. This is the first and only English edition.
