First Edition, Limited to 1000 copies printed on Fabriano handmade paper and bound at the Tomoye Press in New York. 12mo; publisher's vegetable vellum-backed boards in brown printed dust jacket; [4],vi,[2],54pp.; photogravure frontispiece. Tiny chips and closed tear to jacket extremities, spine panel a bit toned, else Very Good, internally fine.

Short story with fantastical elements first published pseudonymously in an 1871 issue of a San Francisco newspaper. Issued here in book form for the first time as part of the publisher's Western Classics series, no. 2.
