About This Item

Millwood Press, Wellington, New Zealand - first edition 1975 hardcover, 8 3/4" x 9 3/4", with dust jacket* Ex-library copy with stamps, stickers etc; 3/4" cut to ffep where barcode once existed. VERY GOOD book with DJ mounted to boards Landscape format hardbound book with monotone fold-out map (Cook's Voyages) and Wedgwood cameo of Cook preceding title page, full-colour portrait as frontispiece, illustrated title page, 70 full-colour illustrative plates, plus maps, journal copies etc. As well as providing an immensely readable account of the great navigator's life and work, this book focusses particularly on Cook's final voyage of discovery in the Pacific. The author studies the output of the artists and draftsmen associated with that third voyage, and the adaptions of their work by other well-known artists and academicians of the day (23 in all). The material reproduced here is drawn from world-wide museums & galleries. Ours is an ex-library copy which has been rebound specifically for frequent reference (*dust jacket mounted to boards and under transparent covering; both endpapers replaced to stengthen hinges - and jacket flap blurbs mounted thereon).
