Illustrated with 247 drawings, diagrams, photographs, and 6 fold-out plans with meticulous details of the ship's design and building. Frontispiece drawing of Empress of Britain by Kenneth Shoesmith. This is No. 4 in the NYGS OCEAN LINERS OF THE PAST series. The book includes a facsimile reprint of the complete souvenir issue of The Shipbuilder & Marine Engine-Builder, published in 1931 on the occasion of the Empress of Britain's maiden voyage. Introduction and epilogue by Leslie Reade. This edition has a new introduction and is updated with the ship's later history describing events each year from 1931 until 1940 when she was sunk by two torpedoes from the German submarine, U32. The Empress of Britain was the largest Allied merchant vessel lost in the Second World War. Bound in the original yellow cloth, with a brown cloth spine stamped in shiny gold. Includes dust jacket..
