Hardcover with price-clipped dust jacket. A very good, clean copy with a very good, clean dust jacket. Do not think this was ever read. "Jonathan Mayhew was the first commanding officer of what an important Massachusets loyalist called the "Black Regiment" of Congregational preachers who incessantly sounded the "Yell of Rebellion in the ears of an ignorant & deluded People." Pastor of Boston's prominent West Congregational Church from 1747-1766, Mayhew educated New Englanders to the potential danger of British authority in the years before the Stamp Act. Believing that resistance to tyranny was a Christian duty as well as a human right, he used his pulpit to arouse public opinion...."
