About This Item
NY: Optimus Printing Co., [c.1890]. 176pp. Original wrappers. Base of spine chipped away, edges of covers and first leaf quite chipped, with some loss to text on cover, paper browned, about very good otherwise. Issued as No. 14 in the GOLDEN GEM LIBRARY. Unfortunately, the date is chipped from the spine, and so is uncertain. First published in England as an Arrowsmith's Christmas Annual in 1883. CALLED BACK was a best-selling book in Britain, and established the pattern for the "Shilling Shockers" which were to become so prevalent..
