Collection of 12 traditional folk & fairy tales from China, rediscovered & retold by Cheou-Kang Sié, former ambassador to the Holy See from the Republic of China & member of the Belgian Royal Academy of French Literature. Illustrated throughout with finely rendered paintings by Chi Kang, "China's greatest living classical artist," along with many small pen-and-ink sketches by S. Katakura. A FIRST EDITION, First Printing, from 1970, in 91 pages, this hardcover 12mo (5.25" x 7.5") has lovely teal silk-covered boards, blindstamped with butterfly to center front, lettered in red & white to spine. Condition is Near Fine: completely clean & bright, binding strong & straight, pages creamy white & completely unmarked. A few pages have small dents/nicks to fore edge (photo 4) & there are some very mild rubbed spots across top edges of both boards. The unclipped DJ is VG, with some small chips & rubbing to extremities, old Japanese price sticker to back cover; nicely protected in new clear mylar cover free!
