London: Constable & Company Ltd, 1925. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. London, Constable & Company Ltd., 1925. Octavo, viii, 378 pages with 38 charming woodcuts by Bold. Quarter cloth and papered boards with a leather titling-label on the spine; top edge gilt, others uncut; spine very lightly sunned; paper on the corner-tips slightly worn; early ownership details; an excellent copy. Number 183 of only 278 copies signed by the author. Provenance: 'R.N. Finlayson | from W.J. Isbister | 7.12 35' is written in ink on the front free endaper. Ronald Nickels (Jack) Finlayson (1882-1945), was a South Australian lawyer and law lecturer, a member of the Boards of Governors of the State Library and of the Art Gallery, and a serious collector of books. William James Isbister (1866-1950) was also a South Australian lawyer and law lecturer, and a member of the University of Adelaide Council, 1905-1949. A later ownership signature, dated 1955, is pencilled in under the inscription.
