Illustrated with 23 full-page b/w drawings and two b/w vignettes. First Edition/First Printing. Bound in cloth boards with titles present to the spine and front board. Boards have light shelf-wear present to the extremities. No ownership marks present. Text is clean and free of marks. Binding tight and solid. Howell's record of his boyhood years in Hamilton, Ohio, written while he served on the editoria; staff of Harper's Magazine. William Dean Howells (March 1, 1837 May 11, 1920) was an American realist novelist, literary critic, and playwright, nicknamed "The Dean of American Letters". He was particularly known for his tenure as editor of The Atlantic Monthly, as well as for his own prolific writings, including the Christmas story "Christmas Every Day" and the novels The Rise of Silas Lapham and A Traveler from Altruria.
