About This Item
William Morrow and Company, New York, 1959. Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Leonard Everett Fisher (illustrator). 1st Edition. SIGNED FIRST EDITION/first printing. Book is beautifully illustrated by Leonard Everett Fisher and signed on the title page and also signed by Fisher and his wife Margery and dedicated to Jerry Wunch, " To Jerry: With our very best wishes on this most important day!" dated December 5, 1959. This book is a distinguished and brilliant history of the beginnings of our country. It starts in the fifteenth century, when King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella of Spain listened at last to a petitions of a wild man named Columbus. it ends in 1787, when a group of state delegates sat down in Philadelphia to see how they could strengthen the government of their hard-won Nation. What distinguishes America is Born from the many other books about America's history, is its compactness and clarity of language, the unique flavor of its unfailing humor, and its profound moral sense. The book is lavishly illustrated with Fisher's bold, dramatic drawings. This is the first volume in a three volume set, which contains, America is Born ( red) America Grows Up ( white/gray) and America Moves Forward Blue). Book is very fine, bound in red cloth with fine black spine and front cover lettering. Book would be AS NEW if the sine bottom was not slightly bumped. Clipped jacket is very good with slight wear to the extremities and a slight fade to the spine. Very SCARSE in a VG dust jacket, signed Collectible Protected in Mylar wrap. Signed by Illustrator
