Illustrated with plates of black-and-white reproductions. Index. Decorated endpapers. Bound in decorated cloth stamped with red lettering on front cover and spine. Some slight dampstaining/foxing on rear cover. Dust jacket is price-clipped, with spine a tad faded. (Please see photo.). A presentable copy of Johnson's landmark study of three centuries of struggle, oppression, riots, failure and success, concluding with the Harlem Renaissance. Book retains attractive shelf appeal. Dust jacket now preserved in a removable, archival sleeve.
